Overview

Finance Fundamentals is an online finance program for Australian not-for-profit executives and managers from non-finance backgrounds. The self-paced program develops financial fluency from first principles through to practical application: analysing financial statements; understanding grant income recognition; preparing budgets and cash-flow forecasts for grant-dependent organisations; appraising capital investments; managing financial risk and reserves; and strengthening financial accountability and governance. Designed by our CFO Advisory team, content is grounded in the ACNC Act and Governance Standards, the Corporations Act, and Australian Accounting Standards including AASB 1058 and AASB 15. It includes key finance concepts, emerging themes, worked examples and practical case studies relevant to the Australian NFP sector. • Module 1 establishes the foundational language of finance and the Australian regulatory framework for not-for-profits and charities, including the ACNC’s role and governance standards. • Module 2 develops the ability to read and interrogate financial statements, grant income recognition and not-for-profit-specific financial ratios. • Module 3 covers the budgeting and forecasting cycle for grant-dependent organisations, including cash-flow forecasting. • Module 4 addresses capital investment appraisal, risk management, reserves policy and financing options. • Module 5 connects performance measurement beyond financials, board governance and emerging themes to the participant’s own role. Enrol to strengthen financial literacy and confidence for board and funding discussions and develop a more assured approach to financial stewardship in service of your mission.
