Overview
Finance Fundamentals is an online finance program for Australian public sector executives and managers from non-finance backgrounds. The self-paced program develops financial fluency from first principles through to practical application: analysing financial statements; navigating budget processes; preparing and monitoring budgets and forecasts; appraising business cases; managing procurement and financial risk; and exercising delegations accountably. Designed by our CFO Advisory team, content is grounded, for illustrative purposes, in the NSW public sector financial framework. Core principles transfer across other public sector jurisdictions. The program includes key finance concepts, emerging themes, worked examples and practical case studies. Module 1 establishes the foundational language of finance and relevant financial and performance management frameworks. Module 2 develops the ability to read and interrogate agency financial statements, cash flow and performance ratios. Module 3 covers budget preparation, monitoring and control, financial forecasting, cost management and efficiency. Module 4 addresses working capital, risk management, financial controls, business cases, procurement and contract management. Module 5 connects performance management, governance and financial sustainability to the participant's own leadership role. Enrol to strengthen financial literacy and confidence in executive and budget discussions and develop a more assured approach to financial stewardship.
